ART STATEMENT

Both in my art and in my day work I am primarily interested in the human form. I initially studied portraiture with Deane Keller at the Yale School of Art and Architecture and have continued since then to pursue the same tack. My approach to visual images is figurative, which agrees with my intimate anatomical knowledge. I prefer to work directly from the model, developing most of my work with the spontaneity of a single or only a few sittings.

I received an A.B. degree in Biochemistry from Yale University in 1968 and studied at the Yale School of Art and architecture during my undergraduate years. I received my M.D. from  the Harvard Medical School in 1973 and studied at the Massachusetts College of Art during those years. I am currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School and a Plastic Surgeon at the Massachusetts General Hospital and have continued during the past twenty years to study at the Massachusetts College of Art and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. I practice Plastic Surgery several days a week and pursue my art the remaining days, nights, and weekends

My work has been exhibited at the Massachusetts General Hospital, the annual meeting of the ASPS and is held in the Cowdry Collection in Washington, D.C..
